Kendamil UK vs Kendamil EU: What's the Difference?
Short answer: Kendamil UK and Kendamil EU are made by the same family company, Kendal Nutricare in Cumbria. Every formula in both ranges lists whole milk as its first ingredient, and none contains palm oil or fish oil. The difference is mostly which product range you are buying and which market the tin is labelled for. In the UK, Kendamil sells Classic and Organic. For Central and Eastern Europe, it sells Premium and BIO Nature. The recipes are close, but the main milk ingredients are not identical. We compare them label by label below.
Shipping note: we ship Kendamil Classic and Kendamil Organic (UK) to the US and Canada only. If you are ordering to an address in Europe, please choose Kendamil EU: BIO Nature or Premium. More on shipping below.

Same company, different ranges
Kendamil does not make a single recipe and simply translate the label for each country. Each market has its own product lines. Parents in the UK know Kendamil Classic (First Infant Milk, Follow On Milk and Toddler Milk) and Kendamil Organic. Across Central and Eastern Europe, the same company sells Kendamil Premium (1, 2 HMO+, 3 HMO+ and 4 HMO+) and Kendamil BIO Nature (1 and 2 HMO+, plus Nature 3 HMO+ for toddlers). Roughly speaking, Premium is the EU counterpart of Classic, and BIO Nature is the EU counterpart of Organic.
What's the same
- Whole milk first. In every Kendamil formula we checked, UK and EU, whole milk is the first ingredient, so part of the fat comes from milk fat rather than only from added oils.
- No palm oil, no fish oil. Both ranges use sunflower, coconut and rapeseed oils. DHA (omega-3) comes from microalgae, and where ARA (omega-6) is added, it comes from Mortierella alpina oil.
- Prebiotics. Every stage in both ranges contains GOS (galacto-oligosaccharides).
- The same rules. UK infant formula law is based on the same EU regulation (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/127), so both ranges must meet the same composition requirements, including mandatory DHA.
- Preparation. On the labels we checked, the scoop sizes and water ratios are the same.
Main ingredients, label by label
These are the main milk ingredients, in the order they appear on each label. Vitamins, minerals and other ingredients under 2% are left out.
Classic (UK) vs Premium (EU)
| Stage | Classic (UK) | Premium (EU) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Whole milk, skimmed milk, lactose, vegetable oils, demineralised whey, GOS, whey protein concentrate (alpha-lactalbumin) | Whole milk (130 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), demineralised whey protein, skimmed milk, vegetable oils, lactose, GOS, whey protein concentrate (alpha-lactalbumin) |
| 2 | Whole milk, skimmed milk, lactose, vegetable oils, demineralised whey, GOS, whey protein concentrate (alpha-lactalbumin) | Whole milk (107 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), demineralised whey protein, vegetable oils, lactose, dried skimmed milk, GOS, whey protein concentrate (alpha-lactalbumin) |
| 3 | Whole milk, skimmed milk, lactose, vegetable oils, GOS | Whole milk (214 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), lactose, dried skimmed milk, vegetable oils, GOS, demineralised whey protein |
| 4 | No Stage 4 | Whole milk (173 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), lactose, dried skimmed milk, vegetable oils, GOS |
What this means: both ranges contain skimmed milk at every stage. In Classic Stages 1 and 2, skimmed milk is the second ingredient. In Premium Stages 1 and 2, demineralised whey protein comes second and skimmed milk comes further down the list, so the Premium recipe leans more on whey. Premium 3 also adds demineralised whey protein, which Classic Toddler Milk does not have. Only the EU labels state how much whole milk is used.
Organic (UK) vs BIO Nature (EU)
| Stage | Organic (UK) | BIO Nature / Nature (EU) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Organic whole milk, organic demineralised whey, organic skimmed milk, organic vegetable oils, organic lactose, organic GOS | Organic whole milk (147 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), organic whey protein, organic lactose, organic vegetable oils, organic GOS, organic cream, organic sunflower lecithin (emulsifier) |
| 2 | Organic whole milk, organic demineralised whey, organic skimmed milk, organic vegetable oils, organic lactose, organic GOS | Organic whole milk (147 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), organic whey protein, organic lactose, organic vegetable oils, organic GOS, organic cream, organic sunflower lecithin (emulsifier) |
| 3 | Organic whole milk, organic skimmed milk, organic lactose, organic vegetable oils, organic demineralised whey protein, organic GOS | Nature 3 (not labelled organic): Whole milk (211 g liquid milk per 100 g powder), lactose, whey protein, skimmed milk, vegetable oils, GOS, sunflower lecithin (emulsifier) |
What this means: UK Organic contains skimmed milk at every stage. BIO Nature 1 and 2 contain no skimmed milk; instead they add organic cream and use sunflower lecithin as an emulsifier. Nature 3 toddler milk does contain skimmed milk, and has no cream.
Why is Nature 3 no longer labelled BIO?
Kendamil's EU toddler milk is now sold as Kendamil Nature 3 HMO+, without "BIO" in the name, and its ingredient list no longer marks any ingredient as organic. We couldn't find an official statement from Kendamil explaining the change, but EU organic rules explain it. Under the EU organic regulation that has applied since January 2022 (Regulation (EU) 2018/848), vitamins and minerals may only be added to an organic food when the law requires them. There is an exception for infant formula, follow-on formula and baby food, but toddler milk for children over 12 months is not covered. Because toddler milk is fortified with vitamins and minerals, it can no longer carry the EU organic logo, or describe its ingredients as organic. EU and German courts confirmed this strict reading for fortified foods in 2024 and 2025.
Kendamil's official EU website says Nature 3 is made with whole milk from organic farms. But the finished product is not certified organic, so neither the tin nor the ingredient list can call it organic. In the UK, which has had its own organic rules since Brexit, Kendamil Organic Toddler Milk 3 is still sold as organic.
What does "HMO+" mean?
Several EU tins carry an "HMO+" badge: Premium 2, 3 and 4, BIO Nature 2 and Nature 3. The HMO named on these labels is 3'-GL (3'-galactosyllactose), an oligosaccharide also found in breast milk. UK tins don't use the word "HMO", but they list galactosyllactose (GL) in their nutrition tables too, as do the EU Stage 1 tins, which have no badge. So the badge is mainly a difference in how the tin is labelled.
Other differences
Stage 4
The EU Premium range includes a Stage 4 toddler milk for children over 24 months. The UK Classic and Organic ranges go up to Stage 3.
The label
EU tins are labelled for their local markets, so most of the text on the tin is not in English. You'll find the English ingredients list and preparation information in the Ingredients and Feeding info tabs on each of our product pages.

Frequently asked questions
Is Kendamil EU the same as Kendamil UK?
No. They are made by the same company to the same rules, and both start from whole milk with no palm oil and algae DHA. But they are separate product ranges, and the main milk ingredients differ. For example, UK Organic contains skimmed milk while BIO Nature 1 and 2 do not.
Does Kendamil contain skimmed milk?
Kendamil Classic, Kendamil Organic, Kendamil Premium and Kendamil Nature 3 all list skimmed milk. Kendamil BIO Nature 1 and 2 do not; they use organic cream instead.
Is Kendamil Nature 3 organic?
It is not certified organic, so it isn't labelled organic. Kendamil says it is made with whole milk from organic farms, but under EU organic rules a fortified toddler milk can't carry the organic logo. That's why the EU Stage 3 is now sold as Kendamil Nature 3 rather than BIO Nature 3. BIO Nature 1 and 2 are still certified organic.
Does Kendamil EU contain palm oil or fish oil?
No. Neither Premium nor BIO Nature contains palm oil or fish oil.
What does "HMO+" mean on Kendamil Premium?
It refers to 3'-GL (3'-galactosyllactose), an oligosaccharide also found in breast milk. UK Kendamil tins list galactosyllactose (GL) in their nutrition tables too.
Can I order Kendamil UK to Europe?
No. We ship Kendamil Classic and Kendamil Organic (UK) to the US and Canada only. For delivery in Europe, please order Kendamil BIO Nature or Kendamil Premium.
Can I switch between Kendamil UK and Kendamil EU?
Most babies can switch between formulas of the same stage. Many parents switch gradually over a few days, replacing one feed at a time. Always follow the preparation instructions on the tin you are using, and talk to your pediatrician if you are unsure.
