Kendamil Stage 2 Feeding Guide: Organic BIO Nature – How Much, How to Prepare & a Sample Day
Your baby is around 6 months old, solids are starting, and you're opening your first tin of Kendamil Stage 2. How do you make the bottle? How much milk does your baby need now that they're eating food too? And what does a normal day look like? This practical guide answers all of it, using Kendamil BIO Nature Stage 2 as our example.

Do you need to switch to Stage 2 at all?
Not necessarily. Stage 2 (follow-on milk) is made for babies from 6 months, alongside solid food. But health authorities such as the UK's NHS point out that a first infant milk (Stage 1) can stay your baby's main drink for the whole first year. So switching is your choice:
- Staying on Stage 1 is completely fine, especially if your baby is happy and growing well.
- Moving to Stage 2 is a common choice once solids are going well. Follow-on milks are designed for babies who are also eating food.
Never give Stage 2 to a baby younger than 6 months.
How to switch from Stage 1 to Stage 2
- Wait until solids have started, usually around 6 months.
- Swap one bottle a day first, then a few more each day over 3–5 days. Many babies switch straight away without any trouble, but a gradual change gives a sensitive tummy time to adjust.
- Don't mix the two formulas in one bottle. Make each bottle with one formula, following its own tin.
- Watch your baby: a little change in poop is normal. If your baby has reflux, allergies, was born early or seems unwell, talk to your pediatrician.
How to prepare a bottle of Kendamil Stage 2
- Wash your hands and sterilise the bottle, teat and cap.
- Boil fresh tap water and let it cool for no more than 30 minutes, so it's still at least 70°C. Don't use softened water or water that has been boiled before.
- Pour the water into the bottle first, using the markings to measure.
- Add the powder: 1 level scoop for every 30 ml of water. Use only the scoop from the tin and level it with the straight edge inside the lid. Don't press the powder down.
- Close and shake until the powder has fully dissolved.
- Cool to body temperature under cold running water, then test a few drops on the inside of your wrist. It should feel warm, not hot.
- Feed within 2 hours and throw away any milk your baby doesn't finish.

How much Kendamil Stage 2 does a baby need?
As a general guide, Kendamil suggests babies need around 600 ml of Stage 2 milk a day from 6 months, as drinks or used in food. In practice that often looks like 3–4 bottles a day.
As your baby eats more solid food, especially towards 10–12 months, they'll naturally drink a little less milk, and some babies drop a bottle on their own. That's normal. Let your baby's appetite guide you rather than pushing them to finish every bottle, and check with your health visitor or pediatrician if you're worried about how much your baby is drinking or eating.
A sample day at 7–9 months
Every family's routine is different. Use this as an example, not a rule:
| Wake-up | Bottle of Kendamil Stage 2 (about 180–200 ml) |
| Breakfast | Baby porridge made with Stage 2 milk, plus soft fruit. Offer sips of water from a cup. |
| Lunch | Vegetables, a protein (lentils, egg, fish or meat) and a starchy food. Water with the meal. |
| Afternoon | Bottle of Kendamil Stage 2 (about 150–180 ml) |
| Dinner | A soft family-style meal and a little fruit or plain yogurt. Water with the meal. |
| Bedtime | Bottle of Kendamil Stage 2 (about 200 ml) |
Tip: Kendamil's baby porridges are an easy first breakfast, and you can mix them with your baby's usual milk.
Storing Kendamil Stage 2
- Opened tin: close the lid tightly, keep it in a cool, dry place (not the fridge), and use within 4 weeks.
- Prepared bottle: use within 2 hours and throw away leftovers.
- Never microwave a bottle; it can heat unevenly and scald your baby.
- Dented tin? Kendamil tins dent easily in transit. The powder is protected by a sealed inner foil, so a dent on the outside doesn't affect it as long as the seal is intact.
Cups, bottles and what comes after Stage 2
- From around 6 months, start offering water in an open or free-flow cup at mealtimes.
- From 12 months, your toddler can move to whole cow's milk as their main drink, or to a toddler milk such as Kendamil Nature 3.
- Around 1 year is also a good time to start moving from bottles to cups.
